COLLEGE STATION, Texas. - The Auburn men's track and field team is in sixth at 15.33 points while the women's team is in seventh with 12 points after day two of the SEC Indoor Championships at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.
Auburn junior thrower Valentina Muzaric broke her school record in the shot put with a distance of 56-1.25/17.10m to give Auburn its first points of the meet. Muzaric, who claims Auburn's nine longest throws, earned eight points with her second place finish, while sophomore Rachel Dincoff placed fifth with a personal best throw of 51-7.0/15.72m for four points.
A total of 20 personal records were set by 17 Tigers as five athletes qualified for final events on Saturday. Junior Samantha Scarlett and Ebony Morrison qualified for the women's 60 meter hurdles as Scarlett finished third in the prelims, recording the fourth fastest time in school history at 8.22. Morrison finished seventh with personal best time of 8.37. Senior V'alonee Robinson qualified for the women's 60 meter final with a personal best 7.33.
Junior Ty McCormack and Niklas Buhner combined to score nine points for the men's team in the 3000m as McCormack finished third at 8:06.08 while Buhner placed sixth at 8:10.05.
Sophomore heptathlete Parker Shearer set a personal record in six of the seven events to finish third with 5309 points, a personal best. Shearer recorded personal bests in the 60 meter hurdles (8.57), 1000 meter (2:45.81) and pole vault (4.20m).
Senior DJ Smith tied for eighth with two other athletes in the high jump at 2.06m to earn a third of a point. In the men's mile, Buhner and junior Kane Grimster advanced to the final as Grimster finished fourth at 4:07.60, while Buhner came in sixth at 4:08.11.
Day three of the SEC Indoor Championship will begin on Saturday at 1:00 with the men's 60m hurdles final, women's weight throw, men's and women's triple jump and men's pole vault.. Live scoring for the event can be found online at www.flashresults.com.
The SEC Indoor Championship will be streamed online on ESPN3 as well as the Texas A&M's website on Saturday. ESPN3 will be covering the event live on Friday and Saturday with Dwight Stones (play-by-play), Larry Rawson (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (sideline reporter) on the call. The SEC Indoor Championship will air as part of a 90-minute show on ESPNU on Monday, March 10, beginning at 6:30 pm CT.
