Men's Golf 7th After Two Rounds At USF Invite

March 3, 2014

Will Long shot a 2-under 70 for the second straight day and goes into Tuesday's final round tied for ninth at the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. No. 23 Auburn (282-287--569) remains seventh in the team competition, 19 strokes behind leader No. 33 South Florida (218-269--550).

"It was another slow start today and we are killing ourselves on the par-5s," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "The teams ahead of us are beating us by 15 to 20 the first two rounds on par-5s. We need to be more aggressive and execute better tomorrow. I have a lot of confidence in this team and we're excited to play tomorrow."

Long followed Sunday's five-birdie performance with four birdies on Monday to card a 70 for his fourth sub-par round this spring. He played the front nine at even-par and then shot 2-under on the back nine.

Daniel Stringfellow shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 15th at 141 for the tournament. He was plus-1 at the turn and shot a minus-1 on the back nine, collecting birdies on 14, 17 and 18.

Ryan Benton also shot a 72 on Monday and is at even-par for the tournament while Niclas Carlsson and Jake Mondy are both a stroke behind Benton at 145 overall after shooting a 73 and a 74, respectively, on Monday.

Brian Campbell of Illinois leads the individual competition at 13-under.

The three-day tournament concludes on Tuesday. Auburn will be among the first to tee off at 8 a.m. CT. Live stats for the tournament are available on www.Golfstat.com.
