The No. 28 Auburn men's golf team will take a 10-stroke lead into the third and final round of the 2014 Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner at Grand National on Tuesday thanks to a combined 9-under from Niclas Carlsson over the events first two rounds.
"The guys played well today," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "We got off to a great start in the first round with Niclas shooting 65 and Dan (Stringfellow) shooting 68. The second round I thought the wind picked up and it played a little tougher."
Carlsson holds a one-stroke lead over Jacksonville State's Tomasz Anderson thanks to a 7-under, 65, during Monday's first round. He followed that up with a 2-under, 70, in the second round. He carded 10 birdies and one eagle on the day.
Stringfellow is in seventh at 4-under after an opening round 68 and a second round even-par 72. He also carded 10 birdies on the day.
Jake Mondy is ninth at 1-under after an even-par opening round and a 1-under 71 during the second round. Will Long is tied for 15th at 2-over (72-74--146) and Matt Gilchrest is tied for 26th at plus-5 (74-75--149).
Auburn's `B' team is tied for fifth and is led by Victor Henum's even par showing (73-71--144), which puts him into a tie for 10th. Ryan Benton (73-73--146) and Victor Wiggins (77-69--146) are both tied for 15th while Blake Messer (74-83--157) and Blake Soni (78-79--157) are each tied for 55th.
"Even on the `B' team we had Victor Henum go out and birdie the first five holes, which is really impressive" Clinard said. "Victor Wiggins came in with a 69 too. It was a lot of good golf and we're looking forward to tomorrow."
No. 42 Kennesaw State sits in second place, 10 strokes behind Auburn (288-286--574). No. 38 Memphis is third at plus-8 (289-296--585), Mississippi State is fourth (296-290--586) while Troy (289-300--589) is tied with Auburn's `B' team in fifth.
