MINNEAPOLIS - Auburn's 200 freestyle relay team placed 11th overall to wrap up the first the day of action at the 2014 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University Aquatic Center.

The Tigers relay corp of Emily Bos, Megan Fonteno, Allyx Purcell and Aubrey Peacock posted a time of 1:28.72 to finish third in the consolation final in Thursday night's opening race.

Auburn was in sixth at the first exchange, but back-to-back 22.0 splits from Fonteno and Purcell put the Tigers in third. Peacock's 22.1 split as the anchor kept the Tigers in third place for the final 50 yards.

"It was definitely good to score points in the 200 free relay. We were disqualified in that relay last year so to come back and to get some points helped put us on the board," Auburn head coach Brett Hawke said. "Tomorrow is a big day for us, we've got a lot more swims and a couple of good relays competing in the morning."

The Tigers are tied for 20th with 12 points along with Notre Dame and SMU after the first day of competition. Auburn has six individual entries in tomorrow's prelims along with two relay teams competing in the morning session. Georgia leads the field after the first day of action with 189 points.

The second day of prelims starts on Friday at 11 a.m. with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke all on the schedule. You can watch here or follow along with live results.
