Auburn track and field split at first annual Border Clash

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The state of Alabama women defeated Mississippi 121-76 while the men fell 107-92 at the first annual Border Clash held at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Representing the state of Alabama was Auburn, Alabama and Samford, while Mississippi, Mississippi State and Southern Miss represented Mississippi. The Tigers accumulated six wins and 15 personal bests in the one-day meet.

Freshmen Khalil Henderson and Teray Smith scored seven points in the 200m as Henderson won with a personal best time of 20.78, which is the 12th fastest time in the nation entering the weekend. Smith finished third with a time of 21.05.

In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Torrey Campbell scored three points after finishing second at 14.11. Junior Adam Civitano placed third and scored two points in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 53.87. Senior Jason Miller bested his previous personal record in the 5000m by 20 seconds to finish third at 14:49.70 to score two points.

Senior DJ Smith scored a point in the high jump with a clearance of 6-6.75/2.0m. Senior Marcus Popenfoose placed third in the discus with a season high 176-03/53.73m. Popenfoose scored three points in the shot put after finishing second with a distance of 59-5.75/18.13m. Sophomore Jace Owens scored a point while finishing fourth in the javelin at 181-9/55.40m.

On the women's side, sophomore Rachel Dincoff scored five points in the discus after winning the event with a personal best throw of 165-11/50.58m, which is the 13th longest throw in program history. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native also won the shot put with a personal best distance of 52-1.75/15.89m.

Senior V'alonee Robinson won the 200m with a time of 24.01, while freshman Marshay Ryan claimed the triple jump title with a jump of 41-10.5/12.76m to score ten points. In the hammer throw, sophomore Victoria Bernardo placed third with a personal best distance of 174-01/53.07m. Senior Tori Nwadiogbu finished fourth with a personal best throw of 173-06/52.88m.

Freshman Rachel Givens earned three points, finishing second in the 5000m with a time of 17:01.52. In the 800m, sophomore Sage Blackwell bested her previous best time by four second and placed second with a 2:12.79 to score three points. Senior Eryn Donaldson scored three points finishing third overall and second among collegiate athletes with a clearance of 5-3/1.60m.

In the women's 400 meter hurdles, Auburn accounted for six points as senior Danielle Hill won the event with a personal best time of 58.85. Freshman Sashel Brown finished fourth 1:00.26. Auburn women's 4x100 relay of V'alonee Robinson, SheKara Martin, Sashel Brown and Ebony Morrison finished second at 45.16.

The Tigers will return to action on April 18-19 for its second and final home meet of the season, the War Eagle Invitational, at the Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn.
