AUBURN, Ala. - A three-run homer by Blake Austin in the first inning was all the offense Auburn would need as Dillon Ortman pitched his second complete game of the season in a 4-2 win over South Carolina on Saturday.
The Tigers (22-17, 7-9 SEC) snapped a three-game losing streak and an eight-game skid against the Gamecocks (28-10, 8-8) with the win.
Austin hit his second home run of the season with one out in the first inning to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. J.J. Shaffer had scored on an RBI groundout by Damek Tomscha to give the Tigers their first run.
Auburn would manage just four hits in the game, but they would need no more as Ortman (7-2) cruised through the Gamecocks' lineup, scattering just seven hits while allowing only two runs and walking none.
Game two of the doubleheader is set to begin at 4 p.m. Full recap to follow.
