Tigers in fourth heading into final round at SEC Championships

HOOVER, Ala. - The Auburn women's golf team shot 10-over 298 Saturday in the second round at the SEC Women's Golf Championships Saturday as the Tigers head into the final round 10 shots back of the lead in fourth place at 18-over 594.



The SEC Championship is being played at the Legends Course at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Ala. The par 72 course is playing at 6,050 yards for the tournament. This is the second straight year for the SEC Championship to be played at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.

Heading to the turn, Auburn was atop the leaderboard after a solid start from the Tigers in their opening nine holes during Saturday's round.



"We got off to a great start. We had our chances and fell short on the back side," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "It's a great golf course and a strong, strong field. We need to be at the top of our game tomorrow."



Senior Marta Sanz continued her consistent play and is tied for 11th overall going into Sunday at 3-over 147. The senior shot 1-over 73 during Saturday's round. Freshman Clara Baena posted the Tigers' best score of the day with a 1-under 71, one of just four players to card a score under par during Saturday's round. Baena finished the day tied for 36th overall at 9-over 153.



Sophomore Alex Harrell heads to Sunday tied for 19th overall at 6-over 150 after recording a score of 5-over 77 in the second round of play. Senior Diana Fernandez also fired a 5-over 77 during her second round, and is tied for 24th overall at 7-over 151. Junior Victoria Trapani carded a 10-over 82 during Saturday's round and goes into the final day of competiton tied for 55th overall with two-day total of 13-over 157.



Vanderbilt grabbed the lead during the second day of action as the lone team under par with a round of 1-under 287. The Commodores lead by six strokes with a two-day total of 9-over 585. Arkansas is second at 15-over 591, and LSU is third with a score of 16-over 592.



Simin Feng and Jenny Hahn of Vanderbilt, along with Janie Jackson are all tied for the lead with a two-day total of 1-under 143. LSU's Lindsey Graham is fourth at even par 144, while Arkansas' Gaby Lopez and Tennessee's Chessey Thomas are tied for fifth overall at 1-over 145 going into the final 18 holes.



The final round of play gets underway at 8 a.m. on the No. 1 and 10 tees. Live scoring is available on GolfStat.com.
