OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss held Auburn to just five hits and cranked out 10 of its own to claim a 6-0 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Swayze Field.
The second game of the doubleheader and final game of the series will begin around 6:30 p.m. Senior LHP Michael O'Neal (2-2, 3.38) is slated to get the start for Auburn.
Auburn freshman Keegan Thompson (5-1) took his first collegiate loss, giving up six runs - five earned - on nine hits while walking three and recording just one strikeout in 5.2 innings of work.
Ole Miss jumped ahead 1-0 in the second inning. A pair of singles by J.P. Woodman and Will Jamison put runners at the corners with two out, and Woodman would score on a passed ball two pitches later.
The Rebels would break things open with three runs in the fifth, again starting a rally with two outs. Three straight singles led to a run as Errol Robinson scored on an RBI base hit by Braxton Lee, and after a walk loaded the bases, Allen drove in two more on a two-RBI single to left to give Ole Miss a 4-0 lead.
Ole Miss made it 6-0 in the sixth, scoring one on a double steal with runners at the corners and getting another on a two-out RBI single by Robinson that ultimately ended Thompson's day.
Christian Trent (5-0) picked up his fifth win of the year for the Rebels with a complete-game shutout, his first of the season, striking out seven on the day.
Five players - Dan Glevenyak, Damek Tomscha, Blake Austin, Ryan Tella and Damon Haecker - had one hit apiece for the Tigers.
