Women's golf tied for 15th going to final round at NCAA Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Auburn women's golf team carded a 13-over 301 during the second round of play at the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday. The Tigers head into the final round tied for 15th overall with Georgia at 18-over 594.

Hosted by Florida State, the NCAA East Regional is a 54-hole stroke play championship being played at the SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. The par-72 course is playing at 6,257 yards for the three-day tournament.

Friday's round was up and down for the Tigers as Auburn started out on fire, racking up five birdies an eagle through the first three holes before cooling off heading to the turn. Auburn heads into the final round, 13 shots back of Campbell, who sits in eighth place at 5-over 581 in the final qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Alex Harrell carded the low round of the day with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 46th overall heading into the final day of play at 4-over 148. Freshman Clara Baena and Marta Sanz are tied for 55th overall at 5-over 149 going into Saturday. Sanz shot 3-over 75 on Friday, while Baena posted a 5-over 77.

Junior Victoria Trapani started out the day on a positive note, collecting an eagle on No. 10 to start her round and finished Friday with a 6-over 78, tied for 75th overall at 7-over 151. Senior Diana Fernandez shot 5-over 77 and tied for a team-high with five birdies in her round with Sanz. Fernandez heads into the final round of action tied for 84th overall.

Vanderbilt continues to stand on top of the leaderboard at 10-under 566, after shooting 1-over 289 on Friday. Duke is second at 4-under 572, Tulane and South Carolina are tied for third at 2-under 574. Virginia is the last team under par at 1-under 575 heading into Saturday, while Stanford is sixth, NC State sits in seventh and Campbell is eighth.

Individually, Duke's Mariah Stackhouse leads the field at 5-under 139, a shot ahead of Duke's Celine Boutier and Sandy Choi. Florida State's Matitlda Castren along with Vanderbilt's Simin Fang and Jenny Hahn are tied for third overall at 3-under 141. The top-eight teams and the top-two individuals on non-advancing teams will move on to the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Action in the regional continues at 7:30 a.m. CT, Saturday with the final round teeing off from Nos. 1 and 10 tee. The Tigers will tee off on No. 10 at 11:15 a.m. CT playing alongside Baylor and Louisville.
