AUBURN, Ala. - Former Auburn swimmer Micah Lawrence won the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke finals at the Phillips 66 National Championship to earn a spot on the USA roster for the 2014 Pan Pac Championships.
Lawrence, who was a 2012 Olympian, posted a winning time of 2:23.05 in the 200 breast, using a strong finish in the final 50 meters to take first. She also closed out the meet with a win in the 100 breast, touching in at 1:06.51.
Auburn junior Annie Lazor also appeared in the 200 breast final alongside Lawrence. Lazor claimed eighth overall with a time of 2:30.30.
On the men's side, sophomores Kyle Darmody and Michael Duderstadt put together solid times at the national meet to earn return swims in a pair of events, respectively. Darmody finished fifth overall in the 50-meter backstroke (25.32) and also claimed 12th in the 100-meter backstroke (55.35). Duderstadt continued his good run of summer performances to conclude the long-course season, finishing 14th overall in the 100-meter breast (1:02.36) and 200-meter breast (2:15.02).
Six other Auburn swimmers represented the Tigers at the Phillips 66 National Championships. Ashley Neidigh, Alexandria Merritt, Sarah Peterson, Sarah Reynolds and Jillian Vitarius all competed for the Auburn women, while Tommy McKee swam representing the men's team.
The Pan Pac Championships run Aug. 21-24 in Gold Coast, Australia. The meet pits swimmers from the United States against athletes from non-European countries. Auburn head coach Brett Hawke will serve as an assistant coach for the Brazilian national team, which features former Tiger Marcelo Chierighini.
