AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn volleyball team opened the Active Ankle Challenge on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-21) sweep of Troy at Auburn Arena.

Auburn (4-3) put together a solid all-around performance to down the Trojans (8-2), dominating Troy in every statistical category. With the win, Auburn moved to 16-0 all-time against the Trojans.

"We had a great crowd tonight and we came out playing efficiently to open the match," head coach Rick Nold said. "We got away from that a little bit in game three, but I felt like we pulled it back together and finished strong."

"I thought we play very disciplined defensively and we put (Troy) in some tough situations. Our defense did a good job taking care of the tips and rolls. The big part for us is that we are trying to learn what's best for us and we try to focus on ourselves as much as we can. I thought tonight we did a good job of playing our game and being disciplined," Nold said after the win.

Freshman Macy Reece led the way with a career-high 12 kills on 23 swings to hit .478 against the Trojans. Sophomore Emily Klitzke and freshman Courtney Crable collected nine kills in the win, while sophomore Stephanie Campbell chipped in six with just one error on nine attempts to hit .556.

"Macy is new to playing outside and she's worked hard to get better there," Nold said. "She was very aggressive and she put lot of pressure on (Troy) moving the ball around all night."

Alexa Filley posted 32 assists and added in nine digs, falling one short of picking up her third career double-double. Alyssa Ivey led the club in digs for the second straight match with 17.

The Tigers controlled nearly every statistical catergory, leading the Trojans in kills (43-24), assists (42-22), digs (54-37) and blocks (8-4).

In the first set, Auburn jump out quickly and never looked back as Reece recorded six of her 12 kills in the opening frame. The Tigers held Troy to a -.037 hitting percentage, the lowest by an opponent that Auburn has faced this season.

The Tigers put together its most complete set in the second, hitting .294 in the frame with 13 kills and just three errors. Auburn also posted its best sideout percentage (81%) of the night in the second set to slow Troy's offense down.

Troy led 19-16 late in the third set, but Auburn closed the match on fire, using a 9-2 run to finish off the Trojans. Crable led the Tigers with six of her nine kills in the frame to give Auburn a strong finish and the sweep.

The Tigers continue to host the Active Ankle Challenge on Saturday. Auburn will play two matches on Saturday, taking on Winthrop at noon before wrapping up the tournament against USF at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to both matches.
