AUBURN, Ala. - A solid blocking effort and a balanced attack gave the Auburn volleyball team its second straight win at the War Eagle Invitational, downing Jacksonville State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-15), at Auburn Arena on Saturday.
The Tigers (7-5) picked up their 10th win in 11 matches on its home floor dating back to last season, holding the Gamecocks (6-7) to a .-037 hitting percentage and just 20 kills in the contest.
Much of Jacksonville State's lack of success was due to Auburn's suffocating blocking up front where the Tiger recorded 14 team blocks - the second most in a match this season.
Auburn hit a season-best .341 in the three-set win, finishing with 38 kills on 85 attempts with just nine attack errors. The Tigers continued to have success in the service game to keep the Gamecocks out of system, collecting four aces in Saturday's contest.
Alexa Filley was the key to Auburn's offensive success, posting a career-best with six kills along with a match-high 28 assists. Breanna Barksdale led the way with eight kills and hit a crisp .727 on 11 attempts without an error, while Macy Reece recorded seven kills.
Courtney Crable and Emily Klitzke also chipped in six kills for the Tigers, respectively.
Stephanie Campbell finished with a career-high seven blocks, while Emily Klitzke finished with five. Barksdale and Crable also logged four blocks for the Tigers. Alyssa Ivey finished with double-digits digs for the sixth straight match, collecting 10.
Auburn will conclude the War Eagle Invitational Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against Northwestern State at Auburn Arena. Admission is free and the match can be seen live on the SEC Network + at WatchESPN.com or via the WatchESPN app.
