Ty McCormack wins at Panorama Farms Invitational

EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Auburn senior Ty McCormack captured his second victory of the 2014 campaign with an 8K time of 23:51.97 at the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday.

McCormack, who has been named SEC Runner of the Week twice this season, defeated 109 other competitors in a field that featured two top-25 teams and nine teams ranked in the top-15 in their respective region.

Overall, the men's team finished fourth with 138 points while the women tied for fifth with Furman at 109 points.

"I am very pleased with men's performance today," head coach Mark Carroll said. "We are getting better every race, and we are getting into top fitness. We are where we need to be. Hopefully by the SEC Championships at the end of October, we will be in top form and healthy.

"On the women's side, it took Rachel Givens a couple of races to get into her form, but it was a very positive run. We were also able to get very good runs by Molly McKenna, Taylor Duncan and Emily Stevens, so I am very pleased with how we performed today."

Senior Kane Grimster was the Tigers' second scorer in the men's race, finishing 14th with a time of 24:25.86. Junior Redatu Semeon ran a 25:05.95 to finish 37th, followed by senior Griffin Jaworski, who finished 41st at 25:11.73. Senior Niklas Buhner placed 48th with a time of 25:19.04.

Sophomore Rachel Givens paced the Tigers in the women's 6K race, recording a personal-best time of 21:32.38 to finish 13th. Freshman Molly McKenna recorded her third-consecutive top-20 finish at 21:48.49. Junior Taylor Duncan set a new personal best with a time of 24:52.40 to finish 21st, while sophomore Emily Stevens finished 27th at 22:10.44.

The Tigers will return to action on October 10 for the Florida State Invite in Tallahassee, Fla.
