Sept. 27, 2014 Atlanta, Ga. - Auburn sophomore Oliver Plaskett advanced to the Gold Group final with two wins in singles play at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on Saturday.
Plaskett defeated Joseph Bishop of Georgia State, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals and eliminated Mitchell Martell of UAB in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-4.
Plaskett will face Furman's Jacob Behal Sunday morning in the tournament final.
"Oliver has been improving his game as the tournament develops," said Auburn assistant coach Martin Stiegwardt. "He's more confident on the court right now and making better decisions. This tournament is great experience for him to keep building for the spring."
Auburn had three other players in the singles quarterfinals, all playing in the White Group. Junior Joseph Van Dooren lost to Felipe Jaworski of Georgia State, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Dante Saleh lost to Ristomatti Lanne of Georgia Southern, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and sophomore Petar Tomic lost to Chris Eubanks of Georgia Tech, 6-4, 7-5.
In the semifinal round of the doubles competition, Chris Eubanks and Michael Kay of Georgia Tech defeated Auburn's Saleh and Tomic, 8-7 (4), and in a doubles consolation match, Davis Durham and Drew Wendel of Kennesaw State defeated Plaskett and Van Dooren 8-7 (1).
