AUBURN, Ala. - No. 8 Auburn men's golf begins play at the Sagamore Fall Preview with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., which is also a 2015 NCAA Regional site.
The field includes No. 1 Illinois along with host Ball State, Xavier, UAB, Louisville, Kansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Akron, Indiana, Purdue, Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.
Junior Michael Johnson will be in the No. 1 spot after a career low 16-under 200 at the Primland Collegiate Invitational. His team-leading performance helped him finish second individually and helped Auburn finish second overall at the Primland. Johnson is currently averaging 69.5 strokes per round.
After finishing tied for third at the Primland, sophomore Matt Gilchrest will be in the No. 2 position. Gilchrest holds the team-low round average with a score of 69.00. He finished in the top-5 in both of the Tigers' tournaments this season.
Senior Dan Stringfellow, who is in the No. 3 spot, has carded 2-over 218s in each of the first two tournaments and is currently averaging 72.67 per round.
In the No. 4 spot is sophomore Will Long, who finished tied for 24th at the Primland and carded a career-low 68 in the final round.
True freshman Matthew Perrine, who will make his first appearance for the Tigers, was the Class 5A Texas Individual State Champion last year and rounds out the Auburn lineup in the No. 5 spot.
