No. 8 Auburn men's golf finishes 2nd in rain-shortened Sagamore Fall Preview

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The eighth-ranked Auburn men's golf team finished second, eight shots behind No. 1 Illinois, with a 2-over 280-298-578 as the final round of the Sagamore Fall Preview at the Sagamore Club was canceled because of heavy rain on Tuesday. Dan Stringfellow and Matt Gilchrest tied for second at 2-under, three shots back.

Most players were on the course, but no one had completed more than six holes. The scores will revert back to the results at the conclusion of Monday's second round. Illinois, which trailed Auburn by four shots after the opening 18 holes, shot a second round 2-under 286 for a 6-under 570.

The Tigers led after the first round with an 8-under 280 behind Stringfellow's 5-under 67. Stringfellow shot a 3-over 75 in the second round while Gilchrest had a 69-73-142, three shots behind Illinois' Thomas Detry (70-69-139). Freshman Matthew Perrine tied for 20th at 73-76-149 in his Auburn debut while Michael Johnson tied for 32nd at 77-74-151 with Will Long (71-80-151).

Northern Illinois finished third at 289-301-590 followed by UAB (299-292-591), Louisville (300-292-592), Kansas (295-297-592), Indiana (299-297-596), Purdue (298-300-598), Eastern Michigan (302-302-604), Xavier (311-296-607), Ball State (310-302-612), Akron (308-306-614), Toledo (305-310-615) and Florida Gulf Coast (307-313-620).
