AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn volleyball gave Ole Miss all it could handle in the first two sets, but ran into trouble after intermission dropping a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-19) decision to the Rebels Friday night at Auburn Arena.
The Tigers (9-11, 1-6 SEC) dropped their fourth straight match in league play as Courtney Crable and Stephanie Campbell led the Tigers with 15 kills apiece, respectively, against Ole Miss (17-3, 3-3 SEC).
"We needed to be more disciplined tonight. We knew what to expect from [Ole Miss] and we didn't execute our gameplan," head coach Rick Nold said. "We're going through a tough stretch and we've got to fight our way out. Right now, we're allowing the other team to determine what is going to happen with us."
Campbell's 15 kills were the most by the sophomore against a SEC foe in her career, while Crable chipped in eight digs, two assists and a block. Emily Klitzke added in nine kills for the Tigers, while Breanna Barksdale posted eight blocks along with a team-high seven blocks.
"Early with Courtney we were going to her quite a bit and then we made some adjustments to our lineup. She was being really aggressive and taking advantage of some situations on the floor," Nold said. "Stephanie did a great job of moving around and keeping them off-balance in the middle. For us it's a matter of getting everyone else going and taking care of things defensively."
Alexa Filley collected her 10th double-double of the year with a 45-assist, 11-dig performance against the Rebels. The freshman also moved into third in single-season history with 741 assists.
Alyssa Ivey logged a team-high 17 digs, while Mary Hannah Arrington finished with nine digs along with a block and a kill. Taylor Schill also finished with eight digs in the match for the Tigers.
Ole Miss out-hit Auburn, .253-.234, despite the Tigers finishing with 10 blocks in the contest. The Rebels finished with more kills (59-55), digs (66-60) and services aces (3-2) against the Tigers.
After Auburn dropped a tight opening frame, the Tigers sprinted past Ole Miss in the second set, posting 20 kills on 26 swings to finish with a .731 hitting percentage.
Lexi Thompson posted a match-high 23 kills on 52 attempts to lead the Rebels, while Nakeyta Clair was the only other Ole Miss player in double-digits with 13. Cara Fisher logged 23 digs, while Aubrey Edie dished 48 assists.
Auburn wraps up the homestand on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. when the Tigers host Alabama on ESPNU. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to wear orange for the Tigers' annual All Auburn, All Orange match.
