TUSCALOOSA Ala. - The Auburn men's cross country team finished second and the women's team placed third at the Crimson Classic on Friday at the Harry Pritchard Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Senior Ty McCormack won his second-consecutive race and his third of the season with a time of 24:27.86. McCormack defeated Kennesaw State's Daniel Garcia, who finished runner-up, by over 30 seconds (24:58.30).
"We had a very good day today, as we were able to get some good results," head coach Mark Carroll said. "It was a little hot today, so we will take a few days to recover, but this is a very positive result heading into the SEC Championships in two weeks.
"The men's race was awesome as well with Ty winning by a huge margin. He looked really good, and from an individual standpoint, he has a chance to challenge for the SEC championship. From the team perspective, one or two guys had an off days, but the plan is to be in the top-3 three at SECs."
Senior Niklas Buhner recorded his third top-20 finish of the season, finishing 12th at 25:28.89. Senior Francis Hernandez placed 23rd with a time of 25:42.20, followed by senior Griffin Jaworski, who finished 41st at 26:04.83. Freshman Kevin Wyss ran a 26:16.74 to finish 53rd.
Sophomore Rachel Givens led the Tigers with her second top-10 finish of the year, finishing seventh at 17:43.30. Sophomore Veronica Eder placed 14th with a time of 17:49.38. Sophomore Emily Stevens placed 21st at 18:01.21, while junior Taylor Duncan finished at 18:15.79. Junior Sage Blackwell ran a season-best 5k time of 18:26.55 to finish 52nd.
The Tigers will return to the Harry Pritchett Course on October 31 for the SEC Cross Country Championships.
