AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn volleyball battled back from two sets down in Sunday's SEC match against South Carolina but the Tigers fell short, dropping a heartbreaker to the Gamecocks, 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 10-15) at Auburn Arena.

Auburn (9-8, 1-3 SEC) led South Carolina (13-3, 3-1 SEC) in nearly every statistical category, but was plagued by a season-high 16 service errors in the loss. The Tigers out-hit the Gamecocks, .221-.211 and finished with season-highs in kills (73) and assists (74).

"We came out sluggish in the first two sets and our energy wasn't there," head coach Rick Nold said. "It's a credit to our team to fight back with courage, but we made too many mistakes which we allowed South Carolina to take advantage of too often, especially in the fifth set."

Alexa Filley finished with a career-high 63 assists, becoming the first Auburn setter since 2007 to recorded 60-plus assists in match. Her 63 assists are the most in a single match since 25-point rally scoring went into effect in 2008 and her total is also tied as the eighth-most in school history in a single match. Filley also finished with her ninth double-double of the year, registering 12 digs along with five blocks and four kills.

Emily Klitzke turned in a career-best performance on the outside, posting 18 kills and hitting a season-best .303. The sophomore's 18 kills are the second-most by an individual player for Auburn this season.

In just her second start of the year, Kristel Moor hit a match-high .400 and racked up a career-best 14 kills on 25 attempts with just four errors. Courtney Crable collected 15 kills and a pair of service aces along with eight digs, while Stephanie Campbell chipped in 13 kills and finished with four blocks.

The Gamecocks were led by KoKo Atoa-Williams' 18 kills on 46 swings, while Darian Dozier chipped in 11 kills and match-high six blocks for South Carolina.

Auburn continues SEC play next weekend on the road as the Tigers travel to defending SEC champion Missouri on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Columbio, Mo. The Tigers conclude the weekend at No. 13 Kentucky at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Lexington, Ky.
