Ty McCormack, Kane Grimster qualify for NCAA Championships

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn seniors Ty McCormack and Kane Grimster punched their ticket to the NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing first and eighth, respectively, at the NCAA South Regional on Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.

McCormack won the men's 10k race with a time of 30:08.3, and becomes the first Tiger to win an NCAA Regional since Felix Kiboiywo won the event three times from 2007-09. Grimster clocked a 30:33.1 to finish eighth overall as the men's team placed third with 106 points.

"Ty ran a great race as he won quite easily," head coach Mark Carroll said. "He made his move in the middle of the race and was able to detach himself from the pack. Kane had a fabulous race, and was able to move through the field really well. Overall as a team, it wasn't bad. It was a solid run by our guys. We have had a good season finishing third at SECs and at the NCAA Regional. All in all, it was a good year."

Senior Griffin Jaworski finished 31st at 31:18.4 followed by senior Niklas Buhner, who ran a 31:23.9 to finish 34th. Junior Redatu Semeon finished 38th with a time of 31:27.1.

Freshman Molly McKenna led the women's team with a personal-best time of 20:30.0 to finish 24th, earning All-Region honors. Junior Taylor Duncan crossed the finish line at 20:31.3 to finish 27th, while sophomore Rachel Givens placed 49th at 20:55.5.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
