ORLANDO, Fla. - The Auburn women's tennis team concluded play at the USTA Clay Court Championships on Sunday with two first-place finishes.
Michala Kucharova and Reka Muller defeated Florida State's Daneika Borthwick and Emily Fanning 7-6 (5), 1-6, 1-0 (12) to earn the championship in the women's 'A' flight. The pair, who was the top seed in the flight, finished 4-0 on the clay this weekend. The duo improved their record to 19-3 when paired with one another in doubles durign their careers.
The Tigers got their second first-place finish from Mary Katherine Lewis and Jen Pfeifler in the 'C' flight. The tandem knocked off UCF's Clare Mendall and Monica Matias, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (2) to finish the weekend with a 3-0 mark.
The last event on the Tigers' fall slate is the USTA/ITA National Indoor in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Auburn's sixth-ranked pair of Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger will represent the Tigers at the event for the second-straight season.
