Auburn men's golf ranked 8th by Golfweek

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's golf team is currently ranked eighth nationally by Golfweek in its latest poll while sophomore Matt Gilchrest is ranked 10th individually. The Tigers are one of three SEC teams ranked in the top 10 and five in the top 20.

The top-10 consists of Illinois, Florida State, UCLA, LSU, Wake Forest, Oregon, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Baylor and Georgia Tech. Texas is ranked 11th followed by North Carolina, Alabama, Stanford, Southern California, Texas Tech, Virginia, South Carolina, Oklahoma and New Mexico to round out the top 20.

California is ranked No. 21 followed by Washington, South Florida, Clemson and Kennesaw State.

Auburn was the runner-up in both the Primland Collegiate Invitational and the Sagamore Fall Preview while tying for third in the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Gilchrest is averaging a team-low 70.00 strokes per round and has seven of 11 sub-par rounds, including six in the 60s. The Southlake, Texas, native had his third consecutive top four finish to open the season by tying for second with teammate Dan Stringfellow at the Sagamore Fall Preview. He tied for third at the Primland Collegiate Invitational at 11-under and tied for fourth at 7-under in the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

The Tigers return to action to open the spring season at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Feb. 5-7.
