AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 28 Auburn men's golf team won its second tournament of the season on Tuesday, beating second-place Kennesaw State by 19 shots in the second annual Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner at the Grand National Lake Course.
Auburn shot a 22-under 842 for the tournament to defeat Kennesaw State by 19 strokes. Mississippi State placed third at 9-over, followed by Memphis, who finished fourth at 11-over. Auburn's "B" squad rounded out the top-5 at 15-over. Senior Niclas Carlsson led Auburn with a third place finish at 8-under 208.
Carlsson was atop the leaderboard heading into the final round but shot a 1-over 73, finishing two strokes behind Jacksonville State's Tomasz Anderson. Junior Dan Stringfellow was one of three Tigers to card a 69 on Tuesday as he finished fourth at 7-under, his highest finish of the season.
Sophomore Jake Mondy placed eighth at 4-under after shooting a 69 in the third round. Freshman Will Long recorded his third top-10 finish of the season after firing a 69 to finish at 1-under 215. Matt Gilchrest tied for 20th at 4-over after shooting a 1-under 71.
On Auburn's "B" team, redshirt freshman Ryan Benton tied for 12th at even par while freshman Victor Wiggins placed 17th at 3-over. Freshman Victor Henum finished tied for 22nd at 5-over, while senior Blake Soni tied for 52nd and Blake Messer tied for 55th.
The Tigers return to action March 23-25 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.
