ATHENS, Ga. - No. 28 Auburn women's tennis battled tough but fell 4-0 to No. 10 Georgia in the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility on Sunday.

After dropping the doubles point to open the match, the Tigers (3-1) looked to erase the deficit in singles play by forcing three matches to go the distance despite dropping the opening set on courts 2-4 versus the Bulldogs (2-1).

Auburn's Reka Muller and Jen Pfefiler suffered their second loss of the season, falling to Georgia's Caroline Brinson and Hannah King, 6-3, at the No. 3 line. The Bulldogs clinched the doubles point as the Tigers' Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger were downed, 6-4, by the Bulldogs' Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez. Paula de Man and Michala Kucharova were tied at 5-5 when play was abandoned against Georgia's Silvia Garcia and Kennedy Shaffer.

After falling behind 2-0 to begin singles play and dropping the opening set in three matches left on court, the Tigers battled back to force third sets. Flickinger took a tiebreaker in the second frame against Perez, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 on court two. Georgia clinched the match as the 83rd-ranked Garcia outlasted Muller, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Andie Diksovaljevic rebounded from a slow start to force a third set on court four against Georgia's Shaffer and was tied at 0-6, 7-6 (10-8), 4-4 when play was suspended.

Auburn returns to action next Saturday for a doubleheader in Lubbock, Texas. The Tigers will take on Texas Tech at 11 a.m. and then close the day out against Wyoming at 5 p.m.
