Two Tigers advance to finals at Tennessee Diving Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Fraser McKean and Pete Turnham advanced to finals in the men's 1-meter competition to open the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Senior Fraser McKean led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in the 12-diver final, scoring 344.25. McKean qualified second for the men's final by posting 356.50 in prelims.

Freshman Pete Turnham finished eighth overall with a 305.05 as the sixth- through ninth-place divers finished within 6.1 points of one another. Turnham qualified eighth for the final by recording a six-dive list of 287.40 in the morning session.

Carly Scheper and Cinzia Calabretta just missed the women's 3-meter final, finishing 14th and 15th overall, respectively. Scheper scored 259.25 in the prelims, while Calabretta posted a 258.05 on the 3-meter board.

Auburn is one of 13 teams at the Tennessee Diving Invitational which includes five opponents from the SEC - Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri and Tennessee. Divers from Clemson, Drexel, Iowa State, NC State, Richmond, SMU and Towson are also competing at the three-day event.

Day two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational gets underway at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter competitions.
