RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Auburn moved up two spots and improved by one stroke over their first-round performance with a 301 (+13) in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Monday.

Through two rounds, Auburn has posted scores of 302-301=603 (+27) and moved up to eighth place after 36 holes at the par-72 River Course at Rio Mar Country Club. Scores across the board were low as the day began - Auburn was 3-under as a team at one point - but as conditions became windy and cooler with some rain, most of the field struggled to the finish.

"We just couldn't get it done today," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We made good adjustments to start strong, but our finish hurt any chance of making a run at it. We will get stronger as the spring goes on and hopefully rebound tomorrow."

Junior Alex Harrell led the way for Auburn on Monday with a 1-over-par 73. She opened her round on fire, carding birdies on three of her first seven holes and was 3-under through 12 holes. But she ran into trouble late in the round, posting a double-bogey at the fifth and bogeys on 8 and 9 to move back over par. At 4-over through two rounds, she is tied for 20th place.

Senior Victoria Trapani improved by two shots from her opening-round effort with a 75 (+3). She was even through her first eight holes with one bogey and one birdie, but made three bogeys on the front nine to finish the day at 3-over. Sophia Schubert shot 77 (+5) in the second round, and she and Trapani are tied for 35th place.

Jamie Yun posted a 76 (+4), a four-shot improvement over Sunday, and Kelli Murphy recorded an 80 (+8). Michaela Owen, playing as an individual, improved by one shot with a 77 (+5) Monday.

Arkansas maintained its first round lead at 585 (+9), two shots ahead of Iowa State (+11). Individually, Iowa State's Chonlada Chayanun owns an eight-shot lead at 135 (-9) with LSU's Elise Bradley in second at 1-under.

The final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic gets underway at 7:30 a.m. AST (5:30 a.m. CT) with a shotgun start. Auburn is paired with Northwestern, Purdue and TCU for the final 18 holes. Live scoring is available via birdiefire.com.
