RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Auburn women's golf team took home a 10th-place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, which concluded Tuesday at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
Auburn posted scores of 302-301-300=903 (+39) for the week. Freshman Kelli Murphy and senior Victoria Trapani were Auburn's top finishers, tying for 27th place overall.
"Kelli and Vic played well today," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "They all showed some pretty good things. We just couldn't seal the deal."
Murphy had the low round of the week for Auburn on Tuesday, posting a 1-under-par 71. She carded three birdies on her first six holes, then made par on 10 of her final 12 to finish with her second round under par of the season.
Trapani matched her best round of the season as well, carding a 73 (+1). She was consistent on the tournament's final day, recording just one bogey among 17 pars.
Freshman Sophia Schubert shot 76 in the final round to finish at 228 (+12), Alex Harrell was one shot back at 229 (+13), and Jamie Yun posted a total of 238 (+22). Playing as an individual, freshman Michaela Owen recorded a final-round 75 to finish at 230 (+14).
Arkansas took the team title at 876 (+12) with LSU as the runner-up. Iowa State's Chonlada Chayanun was the individual medalist at 209 (-7), winning by five strokes.
Auburn returns to action March 6-8 at the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
