AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn completed a three-game sweep of Radford with a 6-0 shutout one-hitter on Sunday in a five inning rain-shortened game at Plainsman Park.
With the shutout win on Sunday, Auburn allowed just three runs to the Highlanders, the fewest runs allowed in a three-game series since Elon scored only three runs against the Tigers from Feb. 28-March 2, 2003.
Auburn (6-2) jumped into the lead with a three-run third inning that included an RBI groundout by Damon Haecker to score Anfernee Grier and the big one - a two-run home run by Jordan Ebert for the 3-0 advantage.
Grier reached on a single to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, including the final two games of the 2014 season. He was 2-for-2 on the day with a walk, two runs scored and a RBI.
Ebert's home run gives Auburn six home runs in its first eight games. The Tigers didn't hit their sixth home run until the 17th game in 2014.
Sophomore right-hander Kevin Davis (1-1) had a good showing in his first start of the season to record the victory in a pitch-count scenario. He struck out five in 3.2 innings and did not allow a run. Senior Jacob Milliman earned his first career save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief.
The Tigers added three more runs in the fifth on a RBI double by Grier, a run-scoring single by Ebert and a fielder's choice RBI from Daniel Robert for a 6-0 lead.
Ebert finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Sunday's game was the first one-hit performance by the Auburn pitching staff in 2015 and the first since Justin Camp, Terrance Dedrick, Jay Wade and Rocky McCord held Kennesaw State to a single hit on March 11, 2014.
Brad Keen recorded the lone hit for Radford (2-4) in the third inning. Mike MacKeith (0-1) took the loss for the Highlanders after allowing six earned runs on seven hits in four innings.
Auburn is in action next on Tuesday when it hosts Georgia Tech at 4 p.m.
