Thompson leads Auburn to 7-1 defeat of No. 27 Georgia Tech

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore right-hander Keegan Thompson struck out nine with no walks over seven innings as Auburn baseball defeated No. 27 Georgia Tech 7-1 at Plainsman Park on Tuesday.

Sophomore catcher Blake Logan (3-for-4) had his first career three-hit night while Kyler Deese and Damon Haecker both drove in two runs to pace the offense for Auburn.

Auburn (7-2) hit for all seven runs in the middle innings scoring two runs in the third on a sac fly by Hunter Tackett and a RBI single from Sam Gillikin.

In the fourth inning, Haecker drove in Logan with an RBI base hit and Jordan Ebert followed up with a sacrifice fly and his team-high 10th RBI of the season for the 4-0 lead.

Deese came through with his two-run triple in the fifth inning and Haecker followed up with a run scoring fielder's choice to widen Auburn's advantage to 7-0.

Georgia Tech (5-3) got its lone run in the sixth inning as Daniel Spingdola grounded into a double play allowing Arden Pabst to score from third.

Junior right-hander Justin Camp finished the game with four strikeouts as he worked the final two innings.

Ben Schniederjans (4 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 BB) was charged with the loss for the Yellow Jackets.

Anfernee Grier was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored on the day as he extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Ebert walked twice to extend his reached base streak to nine games.

Auburn is in action next on Thursday when it hosts Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
