LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 23 Auburn women's track and field team was led by junior Jessie Johnson on Friday, as the pole vaulter set a new school record in the event as the Tigers opened competition at the 40th Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Johnson, who holds the top-8 marks in school history, cleared 13-4.25/4.07m, besting her previous record of 13-1.5/4.00m.

"I am pretty pleased with how we performed today as there is always good competition here and that's no different this year," head coach Ralph Spry said. "Jessie (Johnson) was able to break the school record in the pole vault, and Keenan (Brock) and Teray (Smith) were able to qualify in the 60m finals. Everybody that ran today ran well including Torrey (Campbell), Ebony (Morrison) and Samantha (Scarlett) in the hurdles and SheKara (Martin) in the 60m. The good thing about them making the finals is you will usually run a faster time, and that is what we need right now. Hopefully we can continue our strong performance into tomorrow and have another good day."

In the women's 60m hurdles, sophomore Ebony Morrison recorded a personal-best time of 8.29 to win heat one, and senior Samantha Scarlett clocked an 8.39 to win heat three to qualify for Saturday's final. Sophomore SheKara Martin qualified for the 60m dash final with a personal-best time of 7.47. Freshman Kenzley Defler placed fourth in the 5000m at 17:40.79.

Senior Keenan Brock recorded a season-best time of 6.75 and sophomore Teray Smith ran a 6.78 to advance to the 60m final, winning their respective heats. Senior Torrey Campbell advanced to the 60m hurdle final with a time of 6.96.

In the heptathlon, junior Coren Crompton set three personal bests in the 60m (7.36), long jump (20-7.75/6.29m) and shot put (40-7.75/12.39m). Junior Parker Shearer recorded a new personal best in the high jump at 6-6.25/1.99m and sits in fourth at 2940 points with three events remaining.

Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the heptathlon 60m hurdles, while shot put and triple jump are slated to begin at noon. Running events will begin at 12:07 p.m. CT with the women's mile.
