LINCOLN, Neb. - The Auburn track and field team set 10 new personal bests, including several national marks on Saturday as the Tigers closed competition at the 40th Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
"I think we picked off right where we left off last night, and we had about four of five marks that have a good chance to make it into the NCAA Championships," head coach Ralph Spry said. "We have about three weeks left until SEC Championships and this is what we needed right now. I feel really good with how we transitioned from yesterday to today. We still have a couple of people who aren't where they need to be, so we need to get them ready to go at the Tyson Invitational. I am pleased with our overall performance, and we just need to stay healthy and keep running hard."
Senior DJ Smith recorded the nation's sixth-best mark in the high jump, setting a new personal-best clearance of 7-3/2.21m. Smith's performance ties for the seventh-best in program history, and the highest clearance since Ryan Fleck cleared 2.21m in 2010.
In the women's 60m hurdles, sophomore Ebony Morrison clocked the program's sixth-fastest time at 8.22 to finish runner-up, and junior Samantha Scarlett ran an 8.28 to finish third. Morrison ranks sixth nationally in the event, while Scarlett's time puts the Kingston, Jamaica native in 14th nationally.
Sophomore Teray Smith and senior Keenan Brock placed third and fourth in the men's 60m dash at 6.75 and 6.78, respectively. In the 200m, Smith posted a new personal record with a time of 21.04 to finish fifth. Senior Torrey Campbell finished fifth in the 60m hurdles final at 7.98.
In the men's heptathlon, junior Parker Shearer finished third with 5177 points, while junior Coren Crompton placed sixth at 5042 points. Crompton set a new personal record in the 60m hurdles at 8.56 and in the pole vault with a clearance of 16-0/4.88m.
Sophomore SheKara Martin ran a 7.47 in the 60m final to finish fifth and a 24.13 in the 200m to finish 10th overall. Sophomore Sashel Brown set a new personal record at 24.78 in the 200m, while senior Kali Carney clocked a new PR in the 800m at 2:20.89. Junior Madeline Sharp recorded a personal-best time of 10:44.82 in the 3000m.
Freshman Jake Knight set a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 53-5.75/16.30m, besting his previous record of 51-1.5/15.58m. Freshman Coleman Churitch recorded a personal best in the 3000m at 8:25.78.
Auburn will return to action on Feb. 13-14 as the Tigers will compete at the Tyson Invitational, Husky Classic and the LSU High Performance Meet.
