McKean, Youtsey earn spots on 3-meter for NCAAs

ATHENS, Ga. - Auburn senior Fraser McKean and junior Justin Youtsey qualified for the NCAA Men's Championships with their performances on the 3-meter springboard Tuesday at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

McKean's two-round score of 737.50 placed seventh in the 18-diver final, while Youtsey placed eighth at 720.60. The top-8 divers in the men's 3-meter will advance to the NCAA Championships and will compete on the 3-meter springboard at the event. The pair also qualified on the 1-meter board during Monday's opening day of competition.

"It was good days for both Justin and Fraser," Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Both were consistent and did what they had to do to get in the top-12 to qualify for the 3-meter at NCAAs. I thought Pete also a good day and it was a good experience for him. We'll look to close the meet strong on tower Wednesday."

Freshman Pete Turnham just missed making the final, scoring 304.50 in the prelim session to place 19th overall.

Morgan Mullins and Shanna Schuelein competed in the women's 1-meter final to lead the Tigers. Mullins took 14th place in the final with 12-dive list of 530.65, while Schuelein was 17th overall at 512.60.

Cinzia Calabretta just missed the 1-meter final by 1.65 points and finished 20th overall with a score of 251.70. Carly Scheper's 240.70 was good enough for 25th.

The Tigers wrap up the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships on Wednesday with the platform. The women's competition gets underway at 10 a.m. CT and the men's event will follow. Live scoring can be found at DiveMeets.com.
