ATHENS, Ga. - Four Auburn divers earned spots to compete in platform diving at the upcoming NCAA Championships on Wednesday during the final day of action at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships.
Senior Fraser McKean finished third overall in the men's platform final, scoring 717.25. With his finishes at the Zone meet, McKean will be eligible to compete in all three events at the NCAA Championships, March 26-28.
Junior Justin Youtsey placed 12th overall on tower with a 12-dive list of 579.15. The top-12 finish by the junior will give Youtsey the opportunity to dive in all three events during his first NCAA appearance.
"Fraser and Justin did what they had to do to dive on tower at NCAAs," diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Justin put together two strong lists and finished well in the end. Fraser had a very good prelim as well. We'll go back to Auburn and regroup and get set for the NCAA meet."
Cinzia Calabretta's 12-dive list of 535.05 placed seventh overall in the women's platform final to earn a berth at the NCAA Championships, while Carly Scheper picked up the final qualifying spot on tower by taking eighth place with a score of 505.60. Both divers will compete in the event at the upcoming NCAA Women's Championships.
"I thought Cinzia and Carly had a great day. It's good that Cinzia will get to dive at NCAAs for her final meet," Shaffer said. "Carly got better as the day went on and should did a great job with her list to finish eighth."
Calabretta and Scheper become the first pair of Auburn divers to make the NCAA women's meet since Anna Aguero and Vennie Dantin qualified in 2012.
Shanna Schuelein finished 11th in her final collegiate event, posting a two-round score of 473.70. Morgan Mullins just missed making the 18-diver final by just .70 points. The junior finished 19th overall with a season-best score of 215.10.
The women's NCAA Championships run March 19-21 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, N.C. and the Tigers will send 13 to compete at the event. The NCAA Men's Championships are set for March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
