COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 6 Auburn equestrian team fell to top-seeded Georgia, 13-6, on Friday in the semifinal round of the SEC Equestrian Championships at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
"It felt so good today at the half," head coach Greg Williams said. "It felt like we were coming together, and we were riding like we were supposed to. I would say it was one of the more uncharacteristic losses we have had, but it is what we have to deal with. Georgia is a fantastic team and so is South Carolina. I felt like those two have earned the right to be the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country. We have our work cut out for us tomorrow."
In Equitation on the Flat, senior Demi Stiegler defeated Kylee Arbuckle, 144-141. Sophomore Tory Hoft earned her seventh victory of the year, topping Leylan Gleeson, 157-145.
Junior Allie Dusha won her fourth-consecutive match in Horsemanship, earning MOP honors in her 145-143 victory over Kyndall Harper. Freshman Alexa Rivard edged out Claudia Spreng, 138.5-138, before senior Katsy Leeman defeated Lauren Tieche, 144-138. Junior Hailey Munger closed the event with a 144.5-142.5 win over Charley Thiel.
Auburn will return to action Saturday against South Carolina in the consolation match at 9 a.m. CT.
