AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn track and field team recorded four personal bests on Saturday, closing competition at the Texas Relays and Alabama Invitational.
"I think it was a really good weekend for us," head coach Ralph Spry said. "We started out the weekend with a lot of personal bests, and we had a couple of people hit qualifying marks. We got a lot accomplished with all the groups we sent out. It was a good start to the outdoor season, but we have to work on getting better. Next week is a home meet against some good competition so hopefully we can improve on our marks."
At the Texas Relays, junior Jessie Johnson broke her school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-11.25/4.25m. The 4x100 relay team of Torrey Campbell, Kahlil Henderson, Joe Fisher and Teray Smith finished sixth with a time of 40.26. In the 4x200 relay, Campell, Fisher, Henderson and Smith placed seventh at 1:25.14.
Junior Rachel Dincoff won the shot put title at the Alabama Invitational with a throw of 53-7/16.33m. Dincoff also finished runner-up in the discus with a personal-best throw of 171-6/52.27m. Freshman Mackenzie Holmes-Digiovine placed fourth in the discus at 154-3/47.02m.
In the long jump, sophomore Marshay Ryan finished second at 19-8/5.99m, and freshman Dominique Bullock placed fourth at 19-6/5.95m.
Senior Kane Grimster clocked a 1:53.06 to finish second in the 800m. Freshman Wesley Curles finished fourth at 1:53.60.
Auburn returns to action April 3-4 as it hosts its first meet of the season, the Tiger Track Classic, at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.
