Sophomore Matt Gilchrest is tied for second at -7, one shot off lead after the Hootie 2nd round

AWENDAW, S.C. - The fourth-ranked Auburn men's golf team is tied for third after the second round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Monday, shooting a 285-287--572 at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. The Tigers are five strokes behind leader No. 7 South Carolina at 280-287--567.
All-SEC sophomore Matt Gilchrest is tied for second at 7-under, one stroke behind Coastal Carolina's Andrew Dorn, after shooting a 2-under 70 with eagles on Nos. 2 and 8 for a two-day total of 67-70--137.
Freshman Ben Schlottman is tied for 18th with an even par 71-73--144 while junior Michael Johnson (73-73--146) and senior Dan Stringfellow (75-71--146), who climbed 22 spots with a second round 1-under 71, are tied for 30th. Sophomore Will Long is tied for 60th with a 74-80--154.
"We had a very good start and a nice front nine," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "We are still in the thick of things and can make a run for the tournament championship tomorrow. Matt Gilchrest is a shot back and has a shot at medalist honors as well."
Duke is in second at 286-285--571 followed by No. 25 New Mexico (284-288--572), Auburn, Georgia Regents University-Augusta (288-288--576), Missouri (277-300--577), Coastal Carolina (282-295--577), No. 21 Wake Forest (287-291--578), College of Charleston (295-283--578) and Virginia (286-292--578).
Kentucky (291-293--584) is 11th followed by North Carolina State (295-291--586), Wisconsin (300-299--599), Winthrop (305-301--606) and Charleston Southern (315-315--630).
The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday with Auburn teeing off on No. 1 at 7:50 am CT with Missouri and GRU-Augusta.
