No. 4 Auburn men's golf ties for 5th at The Hootie

AWENDAW, S.C. -- The fourth-ranked Auburn men's golf team tied for fifth at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 285-287-284--856 at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.

All-SEC sophomore Matt Gilchrest tied for 17th at 3-under with a 76-213 while freshman Ben Schlottman tied for 22nd at 1-under with a 71-215.

Senior Dan Stringfellow tied for 29th at even par with 70-216, junior Michael Johnson tied for 36th with a 72-218 and Will Long, who was 5-under on the front nine in the final round, finished 59th with a 71-225.

No. 7 South Carolina won with a 25-under 271-838 followed by No. 25 New Mexico (277-849), Georgia Regents University-Augusta (275-851), Virginia (274-852), Auburn, College of Charleston (278-856), Duke (286-857), Wake Forest (280-858), Missouri (284-861) and Coastal Carolina (284-861) to round out the top 10.

North Carolina State finished 11th with a 279-865 ahead of Kentucky (287-871), Wisconsin (293-892), Winthrop (300-906) and Charleston Southern (295-925).

Auburn returns to action at the Gary Koch Invitational at the Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C., next Monday and Tuesday.
