AUBURN, Ala. - Cody Nulph had four hits and two RBI as Auburn baseball defeated Xavier 10-6 on Sunday to complete the series sweep at Plainsman Park.
After falling behind in the top of the first inning as a run came in on an error, Auburn (13-3) responded in the bottom half with a season-high six hits and five runs in the inning to take a 5-1 lead. Nulph, Jordan Ebert and Blake Logan each had run-scoring doubles in the frame and JJ Shaffer plated a run on a single.
The Tigers tacked on another run in the third inning on an RBI double by Alex Polston.
Xavier (4-9) got a run back in the fifth on a double into the corner by Rylan Bannon, but again Auburn responded with a big inning tallying three runs as Shaffer was hit by a pitch to force a run home and Nulph scored on a wild pitch.
Damon Haecker drove in the final run in the inning on an RBI single. He was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Nulph was 4-for-5, his second four-hit and eighth multi-hit game of the season.
Pinch hitter Sam Gillikin added an RBI double off the wall in left as Auburn tacked on another run in the seventh.
The Musketeers came back with four in the top of the ninth highlighted by a three-run home run by Selby Chidemo off Jacob Milliman. With the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate, Kevin Davis got a strikeout to end the inning and record his first career save.
In total, Auburn used eight pitchers on the day, including four in the ninth.
Blake Logan and Polston both had two hits for Auburn. Daniel Rizzie and Bannon paced the Musketeers with two hits on the day.
Trey Wingenter (4.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) started for Auburn, but threw more than 100 pitches in four innings of work. He was lifted for Will Thompson (2-0), who pitched the fifth to earn the victory.
Xavier's Trent Astle (0-2) was charged with the loss after allowing six earned on eight hits in four innings.
The Tigers totaled a season-high six doubles on the game.
Auburn is in action next on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Samford at Plainsman Park.
