BATON ROUGE, La. - Sophomore catcher Ben Craft had his first career multi-hit game and right-hander Justin Camp pitched 5.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but Auburn baseball dropped the series finale with LSU on Sunday 6-2 at Alex Box Stadium.
"We let [the game] get away from us too early," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "We had a fresh bullpen and we let that game get away from us and we can't do that.
"There were some good bright spots. Kyler Deese swung the bat really well and Ben Craft did a great job for us behind the plate and swung the bat really good for us today. How about Justin Camp. He was outstanding."
Camp replaced Rocky McCord and got the Tigers out of a jam with a strikeout, ground out and a fly ball in the third inning. He went on to pitch a season-high 5.1 innings with just one hit allowed, no walks and three strikeouts.
It was the longest outing for Camp since he tossed 5.1 innings in a start vs. Texas A&M on March 15, 2014.
Craft tallied three hits for the first time in his career with one RBI.
Auburn (21-15, 5-10) scored its first run in the sixth on three consecutive two-out hits culminating in Kyler Deese singling in Craft. The Tigers added another run in the eighth on a RBI single by Craft.
Deese was 3-for-4 with one RBI for his second three-hit game of the season.
LSU (31-6, 10-5) took control early in the game scoring twice in the first inning, one in the second and three times in the third. Auburn starter Rocky McCord was lifted after not recording an out in the third inning and the Tigers trailing 6-0.
McCord (L, 2-3) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks. LSU's Zac Person (2-0; 3.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) earned the victory in a staff game.
Izaac Yarbrough had his seventh-straight scoreless outing to cap six shutout inning for the Auburn bullpen.
Chris Sciambra and Mark Laird both had two hits to lead LSU.
Auburn is in action next on Tuesday when it hosts Alabama State at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
