Robert's big day helps Auburn baseball to a DH sweep

AUBURN, Ala. -- Led by Daniel Robert's six RBIs, Auburn baseball swept a doubleheader with Alabama A&M on Wednesday at Plainsman Park by scores of 8-1 and 10-5.

"It was a long day at the yard, with the games we have to make up," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "We tried to squeeze [these games] in because we are getting so much rain. I thought it was going to be taxing on our guys physically.  I thought the way we came out and competed showed some mental and physical toughness."

With the two victories, Auburn improved to 23-15 on the season. The Bulldogs dropped to 21-20.

GAME ONE: Daniel Robert had a career-high three RBIs as Auburn baseball defeated Alabama A&M 8-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Plainsman Park.

Auburn batted around in the seventh inning as it scored six runs with the big hit a three-run home run by Robert. Melvin Gray had a RBI single and Jordan Ebert drove in two runs in the frame.

Anfernee Grier hit a solo home run in the sixth, his first of the season. Auburn also got a run on a RBI fielder's choice by Blake Logan in the fifth.

Grier was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Ebert had two RBIs.

Dalton Rentz (2-1) threw a career high seven innings with four hits and one run allowed. He struck out six to equal his career high.

Alabama A&M was led by Dustin Dhanani's two hits.

GAME TWO: Auburn baseball scored in six different innings en route to a 10-5 win over Alabama A&M in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Daniel Robert had a RBI single in the first, then added another RBI on a ground out in the third.

He finished the game with three RBIs.

Auburn scored four runs in the fourth with RBI's coming from Jackson Burgreen, Kyler Deese and Anfernee Grier. Cody Nulph also came into score on an error.

Grier was 2-for-4 including his SEC-leading 19th double. Deese and Melvin Gray both scored two runs.

In the fifth, Damon Haecker drove in a run with a RBI base hit to right. Ben Craft scored on an error in the sixth.

Craft had two hits and scored two runs.

Robert made his first career appearance on the mound in the eighth inning. He allowed a run on a wild pitch and a walk before getting a strikeout to end the inning.

Pinch hitter Sam Gillikin had a RBI double in the eighth, then came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Robert.

Robby Clements got the win in his second start of the season to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Andrew Utterback and Julio Nunez both had two RBIs for Alabama A&M.

Auburn is in action next on Friday when it hosts Ole Miss for the opener of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
