AUBURN, Ala. - Three different Tigers drove in runs as Auburn baseball defeated Georgia 4-1 to sweep its first SEC series since 2012 on Saturday at Plainsman Park.
Auburn improved to 29-16, 10-11 on the season to surpass last season's win total. The last sweep of an SEC opponent came over Tennessee in April 2012.
"This means confidence. I see our guys playing with tremendous confidence," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "Our guys are having a lot of fun and they like being around each other. They care about one another."
Dalton Rentz (3-1) earned the win in a staff game. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four hits and no runs with four strikeouts.
Trey Wingenter pitched the ninth for his third save.
The Tigers scored a run in the first inning as Daniel Robert singled with two outs to score Kyler Deese for an early 1-0 advantage.
Robert finished with two hits.
Auburn scored three more in the sixth to widen its lead to 4-0 as a Melvin Gray scored on a wild pitch and Blake Logan tallied a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Bo Decker added a pinch-hit RBI double in the frame.
Gray had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Georgia (21-23, 6-14) scored its lone run in the eighth on a bases loaded walk. Keegan McGovern and Trevor Kieboom both had three hits for the Bulldogs.
The game featured a 41-minute delay between the top and bottom of the first inning due to lightning in the area.
Auburn is in action next on Wednesday when it hosts Kennesaw State at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
