Auburn 3rd after two rounds at Bryan National Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Auburn women's golf team finished the day where it began Saturday, remaining in third place after two rounds at the Bryan National Collegiate.

The Tigers shot a second-round 305 (+17) to give them a total of 604 (+28) through 36 holes at the Bryan Park Champions Course, placing them five shots back of co-leaders Virginia and Wake Forest.

"We had a solid day going," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We didn't finish the last three holes well and lost ground. We had our chances on a really windy day, and we're going to play hard tomorrow."

Freshman Sophia Schubert led the Tigers in Saturday's round, posting a 2-over-par 74 to mark a five-shot improvement from her first round. Schubert started hot, making the turn at 3-under after a three-birdie, bogey-free front nine. She found some trouble on the back side, however, posting five bogeys to finish the day at plus-2. Her effort moved her 20 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 28th place after an opening-round 79.

Fellow freshman Kelli Murphy continued her strong play on Saturday with a 76 (+4) to move her to 4-over for the tournament. She remains in the top 10 in a tie for fifth place with one round to play. A birdie and two bogeys on the front nine left her at 1-over at the turn, but a bogey at the 10th and two more at the 16th and 18th - both long par-4s - gave her a 76 for the day.

Senior Victoria Trapani remained steady with her second-straight 75 (+3), and she is tied for 11th place. Trapani made the turn at even par after a two-birdie, two-bogey front nine, and she had three bogeys and six pars on the back.

No players in the field were under par after 36 holes of play. Virginia's Briana Mao leads the tournament at even par, with Vanderbilt's Jenny Hahn one stroke back.

Auburn will once again be paired with Wake Forest and Virginia for the final round and will tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
