GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Auburn right-hander Keegan Thompson made his first appearance since April 18, but Auburn baseball fell 3-1 to No. 6 Florida on Saturday at McKethan Stadium.

"We play on Tuesday and we need to find out who we play. More than likely it will be Kentucky," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "We've got to beat Kentucky. That's how we look at it. One game at a time. It's a tough way for us to finish the season. We played two tough ball games."

With the loss Auburn finishes the regular season 34-22 overall and 13-17 in the SEC.

Thompson was limited to just two innings on a pitch count. He struck out two with no walks and allowed one run. He threw 29 pitches.

Florida (40-15, 19-11) took advantage of an error by Kyler Deese in the sixth inning with two-run homer by Josh Tobias two pitches later. The homer off new pitcher Izaac Yarbrough gave the Gators a 3-1 lead.

Auburn's Dalton Rentz (L, 3-3) pitched 3.1 innings in relief of Thompson with three hits allowed. He was charged with one unearned run.

Both teams traded runs in the second inning with Deese scoring from third on a wild pitch and Florida coming back in the bottom half with a solo homer by Peter Alonso.

Alonso, Tobias and Dalton Guthrie each had two hits.

Taylor Lewis earned the victory to improve to 5-1. He tossed a season-long 4.1 innings with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

After pinch hitter Jordan Ebert walked, Bobby Poyner got the final out for his fourth save.

Seven different Auburn batters had a hit.

Gator starter Alex Faedo allowed one run on five hits in 4.1 innings pitched with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Tigers await their seed, opponent and game time for the 2015 SEC Tournament that begins Tuesday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
