AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Rachel Dincoff broke the school's record in the discus on Saturday with a throw of 181-5.75/55.32m at the Tennessee Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn.
Dincoff's throw breaks Stacy Martin's record of 181-5/55.29m, which was set in 2004. Dincoff's mark ranks as the 13th best throw in the nation this year and third in the SEC heading into the weekend.
"I am extremely proud of Rachel. She has put in a lot of hard work and she continues to get better," head coach Ralph Spry said. "As a whole, we are peaking at the right time. We have two weeks off and then we go to the SEC Championships. We have been competing hard and I like what I see. We had a lot of PRs today and we have a lot of momentum heading into SECs, so I am excited."
Sophomore Veronica Eder finished second in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:44.86 and sophomore Rachel Givens placed third at 9:51.44. Sophomore Brianna Heilsnis set a 13-foot personal record in the discus to finish as the top collegiate competitor with a throw of 197-8/60.26m.
In the women's 1500m, junior Sage Blackwell finished third with a personal-best time of 4:31.37. Dincoff placed runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 53-0.75/16.17m, and sophomore Sashel Brown clocked a 58.85 in the 400m hurdles to record a new personal best. Freshman Jakyla Hand finished third in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 40-6.25/12.35m.
Sophomore Kahlil Henderson won the 200m with a season-best time of 20.65. In the men's 1500m, junior Redatu Semeon and freshmen Wesley Curles and Wesley Pectol set personal records at 3:50.21, 3:51.64 and 3:53.69, respectively.
Junior Parker Shearer earned personal bests in the 110mH and 400m at 15.26 and 51.94. Freshman Grant Schumacher set a personal record in the high jump with a clearance of 6-8.75/2.05m. With a time of 8:33.10, freshman Mitchell Gomez set a new personal best in the 3000m.
Freshman Jason Bryan recorded a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 52-0/15.85m, while freshman Jake Knight set a new personal best in the discus at 175-8/53.54m.
The Tigers will return to action May 14-16 for the SEC Championships in Starkville, Miss.
