SAN ANTONIO - The Auburn women's golf team completed the second round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional on Friday with a score of 293 (+5) to move to 8-over-par for the tournament.
Freshman Sophia Schubert posted the Tigers' best round of the day, turning in a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. After a bogey at the fourth hole, she got on a hot streak on the latter half of the front nine, carding three birdies in a five-hole stretch to make the turn at 2-under. A bogey at the 12th dropped back to 1-under, but she got that shot back with a birdie at the 15th. At 1-under par for the tournament, Schubert is tied for XXth overall heading into the final round.
Senior Victoria Trapani recorded her second-straight round of 73 (+1). Bogey-free through the first 14 holes, she made birdie at the par-5 fifth to move to 1-under. A pair of bogeys at the 15th and 18th were her only blemishes on the scorecard as she matched her season-best round once again.
Junior Alex Harrell is at even par through two rounds after a 74 (+2) on Friday. After a bogey at the second hole, she played her next 13 holes at 2-under with birdies at the eighth and 11th before dropping three shots toward the end of the round. Freshman Kelli Murphy and sophomore Clara Baena posted matching rounds of 76 (+4).
Tennessee leads the tournament at 19-under, three shots ahead of Baylor. Washington, UCLA, Texas A&M and Texas round out the top six. UCLA's Bronte Law and Baylor's Hayley Davis are tied for the lead at 9-under.
Auburn is in 12th place heading into the final round, 13 strokes back of sixth-place Texas. The top six teams advance to the NCAA Championships. The conclusion of the second round was delayed for more than two-and-a-half hours due to lightning, and play concluded around 5:30 p.m.
The final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Auburn will be once again paired with Florida State and Oklahoma, and the teams will begin play on the 10th tee.
