EUGENE, Ore. - The Auburn men's track and field team concluded competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday with top-8 finishes from sophomore Kahlil Henderson and junior Shawn Johnson at the Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"I am pretty excited because our group came here and competed hard," head coach Ralph Spry said. "Kahlil Henderson was able to hang in there in one of the fastest 200m races in history and finished seventh. Shawn Johnson was able to compete and earn All-America honors in the high jump and triple jump, so I am really proud of him. We are a young team and these are the type of experiences we need to be able to get back to where we want to be, so I am excited."
Henderson clocked a 20.38 to finish seventh in the 200m to earn two points. The Hollywood, Fla., native is the first Tiger to earn back-to-back All-America honors in the 200m since Coby Miller in 2000.
Johnson, who was the only athlete to qualify in the high jump and triple jump, cleared 7-1/2.16m in the high jump to tie for eighth place. Johnson earned second team All-America honors in the triple jump with a distance of 52-2.75/15.92m.
Senior Ty McCormack, who earned his MBA in May, finished 18th in the 5000m at 14:26.63.
Junior Rachel Dincoff and sophomore Marshay Ryan will close competition for the women's team Saturday in the discus and triple jump, respectively. Action will get underway with the discus at 3:35 p.m. CT, while the triple jump is slated to begin at 4 p.m. CT.
Saturday's coverage of the NCAA Championships can be seen on ESPN2 and the Watch ESPN app from 4-6:30 p.m. CT. Live results for the NCAA Championships can be found online here.
