No. 6 Auburn men's golf in fifth after Carpet Capital Collegiate first round

DALTON, Ga. -- The sixth-ranked Auburn men's golf team is in fifth after the first round at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, shooting a 5-over 293 at the Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga. The Tigers are seven strokes off the lead of No. 13 Georgia Tech (286).

All-SEC senior Michael Johnson is tied for seventh at 1-under 71. He birdied Nos. 2, 7 and 9 on the front nine.

All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest and freshman Jacob Solomon are tied for 17th at 1-over 73, freshman Graysen Huff is tied for 41st at 4-over 76 and junior Will Long is tied for 53rd at 6-over 78. Freshman Mark Lawrence, playing as an individual, shot an 81 to tie for 70th.

No. 8 South Carolina and No. 17 Alabama are tied for second at 289 followed by No. 2 LSU (291), Auburn, Clemson (296), Ole Miss (296), No. 14 South Florida (297), Kennesaw State (299) and No. 22 North Carolina (299).

Tennessee (303) is 11th followed by No. 23 Florida (304), Chattanooga (305), North Florida (307) and Dalton State (315)
