Alex Harrell led Auburn with a 72 in Monday's second round of the Cougar Classic.
CHARLESTON, S.C. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn's women's golf team was six shots better in the second round of the Cougar Classic, which continued Monday at Yeamans Hall Club.
The Tigers shot a team total of 4-over-par 292 and moved up three spots to a tie for eighth place in the 20-team field.
Senior Alex Harrell made the biggest jump for the Tigers in round two, following up a first-round 78 with an even-par 72 on Monday. Harrell recorded three birdies and three bogeys on the day, including a closing stretch of birdie-bogey-bogey-birdie on the final four holes. She moved up 33 spots on the individual leaderboard to a tie for 48th place.
Sophomore Michaela Owen had another solid round, posting a 1-over-par 73 to stand at 1-over for the tournament and in a tie for 14th place. She had four birdies and five bogeys on the day, making two birdies on par 3s and two on par 5s.
Sophomore Kelli Murphy matched her own first round score and Owen's second-round total with her second-straight round of 73 (+1). She also posted four birdies on the day and had just one major blemish on the card with a double-bogey at the 14th. But she closed with three straight pars to move into the top 20, tied for 18th place.
Clara Baena rebounded nicely with a 2-over 74, improving by three shots over her first round. After making the turn at 1-under with a bogey-free front nine, she posted four bogeys on the back but finished strong with birdie at the 18th.
Arkansas increased its team lead to 10 shots at 11-under par for the tournament; Virginia is in second place at 1-under. Individually, Clemson's Alice Hewson and Florida's Taylor Tomlinson share the lead at 8-under.
The final round gets underway at 8 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Auburn will begin on the 8th through 10th holes paired with NC State, Michigan, and North Carolina. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
