No. 2 Auburn men's golf 2nd after Jerry Pate 2nd round

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The second-ranked Auburn men's golf team is in second after 36 holes at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, shooting a 6-under 276-278--554 at the Old Overton Club on Monday. The Tigers are eight strokes behind leader Alabama (278-268-546).

All-SEC senior Michael Johnson is in fourth at 4-under 66-70-136 with six birdies in the opening round on Nos. 2, 6, 7, 9, 15 and 16.

Freshman Jacob Solomon (71-68--139) is tied for ninth1-under. His second round 68 is the first round in the 60s of his collegiate career as he birdied Nos. 1, 7, 14, 15 and 18.

All-American sophomore Ben Schlottman (69-72-141) is tied for 16th with birdies at Nos. 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16 in the opening round and Nos. 8, 15 and 18 in the second. Freshman Mark Lawrence (70-76-146) is tied for 37th and All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest (80-68-148) is tied for 44th.

Florida is in third at 287-268-555 followed by No. 5 Florida State (279-279-558), UNLV (283-283-566), UAB (286-283-569), Arkansas (278-293-571), Baylor (289-284-573), UTSA (289-285-574) and Kennesaw State (292-292-584).

Mississippi State (294-292-586) is in 11th and Charlotte (299-291-590) is in 12th.

The Jerry Pate National Collegiate concludes Tuesday. The Tigers tee off No.1 at 8:50 am CT with Florida and Alabama.
