CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Sophomore Michaela Owen shot a second-round 74 (+2) to lead the Auburn women's golf team in the second round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday.
Owen's 74 led the Tigers, who posted a 304 (+16) in Saturday's second round to move into ninth place at 26-over in the 18-team field. The Tigers are four shots back of host North Carolina for eighth place and one shot ahead of 10th-place Virginia.
Owen posted her second-straight round of 74 and moved up to a tie for 17th-place in the 96-player field. She carded two bogeys and one birdie to make the turn at 1-over, then moved back to even with birdie at the 12th. Two bogeys over the final four holes left her at plus-two for the day.
Senior Alex Harrell was one shot back with a 75 (+3). Harrell had three birdies, four bogeys and one double-bogey on the day as she moved up to a tie for 33rd place. Freshman Melanie Talbott posted a 77 (+5), and junior Clara Baena carded a 78 (+6) to round out the counting scores for the Tigers.
Duke continues to lead at 2-over-par, 11 shots ahead of Arkansas and Louisville (+13). Duke's Leona Maguire is the individual leader at 3-under through 36 holes.
Auburn will be paired with Tennessee and North Carolina for the final round, which gets underway at 8:15 a.m. CT Sunday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
